WEiRD
So i sat there on the sofa, trying to get through a few chapters of WEIRD (good book by Craig Groeshel). Dad was in his couch watching Wimbledon wincing as Serena Williams served her way into the Semi-finals (He’s not much of a Serena Wlliams fan).
Then he asked:” What’s that WEIRD book about?”
My heart skipped a beat, afraid that he would resent a straightforward answer, after all he has always reiterated that he didn’t like me and my siblings being too Spiritual. I was afraid at what he might think if i gave him a straightforward answer. Tempted to beat around the bush and sugar coat my answers to make it as seeker sensitive as possible, I remembered today’s morning devotion to speak up on what i believe.
Convicted(I haven’t really spoken my faith out loud in recent events), I breezed through the whole summary of the book, talking on how it’s a christian book that tackles the idea of the three main influences of the world Power Money Sex and how Weird Christians really are when compared to Normal People. Dad seemed to buy it.
Relieved at no resentment. I jumped at the opportunity to invite my dad to alpha. (Wouldn’t hurt to try.) He gave a good look at it,
” Not yet son, Someday I’ll go with you, Not yet.”
” Alright no big deal (playing hard to get)”
but was still thankful that he considered, that I took a small step closer to standing for what I believe and hopeful that “someday” means salvation in the bag.
